Snowdrops galore

It’s snowdrop season at Quy Hall! Not only do these gorgeous flowers look beautiful and remind us that spring is on the way but they’re also raising money for charity.

Snowdrops have been picked here for over a hundred years since Sophia Francis first organised the charitable enterprise during WW1 according to our local history group. The flowers were then sent by train to Convent Garden and the money given to the Red Cross.

As you can see they’ve made the headlines (maybe not quite the front page!) over the years….

Bunching up!

We love this photo of local ladies working together to bunch the snowdrops ready for their journey.

And what about this lovely lady who made the local paper in the late 1970s? If you happen to know where that lovely 13-year old Jayne Bradford of Bottisham is now, let us know- We’d love to see her back!

We’re proud to support the continuation of this long-standing tradition and grateful to the local volunteers who pick and bunch them for sale up at the crossroads of our village. Now the proceeds all go to local good causes.

If you’re passing through the village why not stop and pick up a little beacon of spring?

We offer tours of the house and gardens giving you the chance to see the amazing display of snowdrops in person through the Invitation to View Scheme so if you want to come and see for yourself Visit us and keep an eye on our social media for new dates.
